What is Ajax?

The First Article i read this week was, What is Ajax?. The Author of the article is Jennifer Kyrnin. The article is all about what Ajax aka Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, which is a new web 2.0 application. This article explains what languages Ajax uses and what it does. They also go on to explain why they use it, and why its better then other ways to render the information it does. This was a great article for any web designer to read about. It tells you what you need to know to use it, why you should use it. I think it was a very useful article, because it told me exactly what i wanted to know about Ajax.

Communicating Design’ by Dan Brown

The Second Article i read this week was, Communicatiing Design' by Dan Brown. The Author of the article was by Gareth Rushgrove. I know you must be a little confused at the moment. This article was actually a review of a book. I thought i would blog about it because its one of the few books of its kind. That talks about documenting your design to allow your customers or employer know what your doing see your vision. This is a very rare aspect of the web design business that every designer should know. So the knowledge of this book should be known and thats why i choose to blog about it. I believe it was a very useful article because of this and everyone should read the article and then read the book.

Looking at type

The Third Article I read this week was, Looking at type. The author of the article was Mark Boulton. The article was about how proper font selection can make and break your site. How it can send the wrong message, if you select the wrong font. I believe a lot new web designers do this, Including myself. He tells you how to choose your font, and how to test you font. Its a great article and I learned a lot from it.

Week One Article Blog - 1 - 25 - 08

Making Popular Layout Decisions

The first article i read was, Making Popular Layout Decisions by Eric Meyer. The article was about deciding to use fixed or scaled layouts and fonts. The author basically said one way or another your going to alienate a user and annoy someone. He also said that you must go through the pros and cons of the both fixed and scaled, and you should never expect to make everyone happy. I thought it was interesting article and useful, I've always wonder how a professional decides what the best option between the two while creating a site.

Will the Standards Battle Ever be Won?

The Second Article i read was, Will the Standards Battle Ever be Won?. The article touched on a number o subjects that were all based around web standards. Some of the subjects they talked about was whether or not we should standardize around IE or the other way around. Also talked about weather standards were getting better or not with the new version of IE. There was also a number of other small subjects that were touched upon. The article was interesting, but it wasn't useful for learning purposes. It was more informational.

5 Easy ways to Improve Your Website's Legibility

This third article i read was, 5 Easy Ways to Improve your Website's Legibility. The Article was written by Debbie Campbell. The article talked about the 5 ways they believe you can increase legibility of your web page and why they believe it worked. I believe it was a useful article because if your users can't read your page then, your page is useless no mater how good it looks.
